New project on forest concessions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
This June, the first one-day workshop was held in Kinshasa (capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC), marking the launch of the mission on "Review of the legal titles of forest concessions in the DRC".
This workshop was organized with the support of the local NGO Action Massive Rurale (AMAR) and had the objective of sharing local and international visions and experiences with all attendees, counting on the important political actors of the country. Political figures also attended such as the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Benjamin Toirambe, who opened the event.
With this workshop, the country embarks on an ambitious program to reform forest exploitation titles, particularly forest concession contracts. This new project is expected to help the country in managing the protection and growth of forests through the sustainable management of their resources; the production of goods and services from its forests; and also to increase the level of carbon storage to help reduce climate change, improve biodiversity and also contribute to the self-regulation of ecosystems.
