OCA Global supports floating solar energy projects in the Pacific
OCA Global will support the strengthening of the energy sector in the eleven smaller island countries of the Pacific through a mechanism of Technical Assistance for transactions. These lands are highly dependent on imported fossil fuels for energy and transportation; furthermore, they are widely suffering the consequences of climate change and extreme geophysical and meteorological events, which pose additional threats to their fragile economies and hamper existing development challenges.
Thus, this project seeks to help these regions achieve ambitious renewable energy objectives, reduce dependence on diesel, reduce energy generation costs and push down rates, avoid greenhouse gas emissions and create institutional capacity. The project will include the development of the floating solar energy roadmap and the processing of projects for the development of the emerging solar energy application known as floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) technology.
Technical Assistance from our team will support the objectives, results and priorities of the Pacific Renewable Energy Investment Facility and will follow its programmatic approach and streamlined management procedures. Similarly, the execution of this project will support the Strategy 2030 and the Pacific Approach of the ADB. This Technical Assistance will be developed through three components:
- The evaluation of the theoretical and technical potential of floating solar energy in the Pacific region, the development of the floating solar energy roadmap and the project portfolio.
- Analyzes of rate structures and recommendations for business models.
- Institutional capacity development for all stakeholders, including support for private sector investments.
