Pilot project on energy efficiency in Belize successfully implemented
Thanks to OCA Global's comprehensive advice, Belize has adopted new sustainable projects with the aim of collaborating in reaching the climate goals of the Paris Agreement. A reduction in electricity consumption and of GHG emissions is predicted, spreading out the implementation of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy power sources.
Two years ago, our Consulting and Technical Advisory division assisted the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) to officially launch its first climate change mitigation pilot project to support the implementation of GHG emission reduction measure in Caye Caulker (Belize). The pilot project was reviewed, validated and selected one year later by a multi-stakeholder meeting.
This resulted in the selection of the climate change mitigation intervention of acquiring and installing high energy-efficiency air conditioning units within 10 public buildings facilities, some of them powered by solar photovoltaic facilities. These units are more sustainable, count on alternative environmentally friendly hydrocarbon refrigerants, and are retrofitted with more efficient alternatives than the traditional ones contributing to the phasing out of ozone depleting refrigerants in the country and are solar hybrid powered.
