Transition to a circular economy in Costa Rica

07.02.2022

The division of Consulting and Technical Advisory of OCA Global and Circular Economy Platform (PEC-Américas) de la Fundación para el Desarrollo Sostenible de las Américas (ASDF)started the project this January“Technical assistance to support the transition to a circular economy in Costa Rica”, financed by the Centro y Red de Tecnología del Clima (CTCN).

This twelve-month initiative will result in the planning and implementation of a cross-sectoral participatory design strategy that will help national, regional and local authorities - as well as private sector stakeholders in Costa Rica - to guide, monitor and evaluate the country's transition to a Circular Economy. This will be done by addressing the legal, social, economic and cultural barriers that hinder this process from a gender perspective.

The strategy is to link all existing and planned sectoral initiatives, programs and policies related to the Circular Economy, which will lead to increased climate resilience, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and promotion of shifts towards more sustainable consumption patterns. Therefore, the project will contribute to the ultimate goals ofContributions determined at the national level (NDC) and to the country's Circular Economy objectives.

The project was launched in January 2022 with the organization of two kick-off meetings with the Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía of Costa Rica, el Centro de Innovación y Economía Circular (CIEC), CTCN representatives in Costa Rica and key authorities
