This June in Kinshasa (capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC), the first workshop of a day marking the launching of the mission on the "Review of legal titles to forest concessions in the DRC".
This workshop was organized with the support of the local NGOAction Massive Rurale (AMAR) and aimed to share local and international visions and experiences with all attendees, with the participation of important political actors in the country. It was also attended by political personalities such as the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Benjamin Toirambe, who opened the event.
With this workshop, the country is embarking on an ambitious program of reforms of logging titles, particularly forest concession contracts. This new project is expected to assist the country in managing the protection and growth of forests through the sustainable management of its resources; the production of goods and services from its forests; and also to increase the level of carbon storage to help reduce climate change, enhance biodiversity and also assist in the self-regulation of ecosystems.
