OCA Global works to improve the resilience of Tonga's power grid to climate change
26.03.2018
OCA Global will begin work on a new project funded by the European Commission to improve Tonga's social and economic development by strengthening its electricity grid.
The aim of this project is to make the country's power grid more resilient to combat the adverse effects of climate change and, at the same time, to create a more favorable investment climate for the power generation sector. To this end, an advisory service will be provided to the Government of Tonga through the state-owned Tonga Power Limited (TPL).
More specifically, OCA Global will improve the technical coordination of the country's power grid through the development and formalization of a grid code for a more efficient operation of the power generation and distribution system, thus ensuring and guaranteeing the continued safe operation of the service. This is intended to provide better access to more modern, sustainable and environmentally friendly energy services.
The work involved in this project ranges from the drafting of a new operating code to a gap study analysis of possible discrepancies between legislative documents and government policies. In addition, a recommendations document will be drafted with special consideration to the particular characteristics of each group of islands in the archipelago.
