Program on floating solar energy systems in Central Asia

20.01.2021

Under the Asian Development Bank's Floating Solar Power Development project in Central Asia, OCA Global is currently implementing an institutional training program in the design, construction and operation of floating solar PV systems in Azerbaijan.

Central and West Asian countries are heavily dependent on fossil fuels, hydropower or fuels, making them highly carbon intensive, energy insecure and vulnerable to climate and external supply shocks. The proposed knowledge and technical assistance is aimed at testing and acquiring expertise on the emerging technology (Floating Solar Power) to diversify the energy mix, increase energy security and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The program consists of a total of five weeks of virtual training, with four training sessions held each week during December 2020 and January 2021, resulting in a total of 20 training sessions. During the duration of the virtual trainings, different aspects of the project are explained, such as financial, environmental, technical and feasibility studies, among others. Attendees of the training sessions have an average of 50 participants and are composed of different representatives from Azerbaijan's ministries, the Asian Development Bank and other interested parties.
