Carbon Footprint
What is it?
The Carbon Footprint is a verifiable indicator that allows quantifying GHG emissions (greenhouse gases) released into the atmosphere attributable to an organisation, product, service or event, which is measured in mass (tons, kilos, etc.) of equivalent CO2 (CO2eq or CO2e). This calculation allows any company or organisation to be aware of the impact that their activity generates in the environment in order to commit to develop a strategy to reduce this type of emissions.
OCA Global implements an effective verification scheme designed to evaluate the elements that contribute to the reduction of GHG during the life cycle of a service/product. The steps carried out are:
- Evaluation of greenhouse gas emissions of the service/product life cycle.
- Evaluation of alternative product configurations, purchasing, and manufacturing methods, and selection of raw materials and suppliers based on the life cycle of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the goods and services.
- Establish a reference point for ongoing programs aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Compare the goods or services with a common, recognised, and standardised approach for the evaluation of the life cycle of GHG emissions.
- Corporate responsibility report.
Several international standards have been developed to facilitate the fight against GHG emissions to social entities: ISO 14064 - PAS 2050 - GHG PROTOCOL - ISO 14067. These standards include the requirements to determine the limits of the GHG emissions and removals of the organisation, while identifying areas of improvement in order to reduce GHG emissions.
Legal framework
- Voluntary standard supported by: ISO 14064: 2006, PAS 2050 and PAS 2060.
Who is it for?
The Carbon Footprint certification is aimed at all types of companies, regardless of their activity and size.
