Service stations for gas vehicles

Service stations for gas vehicles are storage and supply facilities for compressed natural gas (CNG) that will be used as fuel for gas vehicles, both in the facilities with free access and in those with restricted access. The inspections that must be carried out in these stations are: initial inspections, periodic revisions, new construction inspections or inspections of the expansion of existing stations.

The supervisions are mandatory since the entry into force of the Technical regulation for the distribution and use of gaseous fuels (Reglamento técnico de distribución y ulitización de combustibles gaseosos), and they are carried out every 4 years in natural gas stations, every 5 years in LPG stations. These inspections are applied to the 3 types of facilities that can be found in natural gas service stations:

  • Compression installations.
  • Storage installations, if applicable.
  • Filling installations.

However, it is not applicable to the inspection to be carried out in accordance with the Regulation of pressure equipment (Reglamento de aparatos a presión en equipos) in equipment integrated in such said facilities – such as tanks, pipes, vaporisers, etc.

Applicable regulation

  • Regulated by the Technical regulation of distribution and use of gaseous fuels according to Royal Decree 919/2006.
  • ITC-ICG 05
